Set in Kyoto's Hanamachi district, the story follows the daily life of the main character, Kiyo, who becomes a “manakana-san” (i.e., a cook) in a Yakata where maiko live together, and her best friend and maiko Sumire, who comes with her from Aomori, through the gorgeous world of gei-maiko and delicious food.
