PROFILE

Born in Akita Prefecture in 1989.
His film “Gambare toka Uruse” (14), about the bitter adolescence of a high school soccer club manager and captain, won the Film Fan Award and the Audience Award at the Pia Film Festival PFF Awards 2014 and was nominated for the Competition section of the 19th Busan International Film Festival.
He was selected for the Agency for Cultural Affairs-commissioned project “ndjc: Young Filmmakers Development Project 2015” and directed “Kowarehajimeteru, Hey Hey Hey” (16).
Subsequently, he produced “Arukenai bokurawa” (19) and other films.
He made his feature-length theatrical film debut with “Any Crybabies Around?” (20), which depicts the lost journey of a young man who failed to become a righteous father. The film won the Best Cinematography Award in Competition at the 68th San Sebastian International Film Festival, and was nominated for the New Directors Competition at the 56th Chicago International Film Festival and the Competition at the 21st TOKYO FILMeX.
