Miwa Nishikawa
Miwa Nishikawa Film director

Born in Hiroshima, and a graduate of Waseda University, Miwa Nishikawa was first discovered by Hirokazu Kore-eda. After working with many veteran directors, she made her directorial debut with WILD BERRIES(2003). Her second film, SWAY (2006), was acclaimed at Cannes Film Festival and a big box-office success in both Japan and Korea, and her third film, DEAR DOCTOR (2009), also enjoyed great success at the box-office in Japan, winning various awards, including Best Screenplay Award at the 2010 Annual Japan Academy Prize. Her fourth film, DREAMS FOR SALE (2012), had its world premiere in the Special Presentations section at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, and was also released in Hong Kong. She has published a novel adapted from the screenplay of SWAY (2006), and nominated for the annual Mishima Yukio Literary Prize, and a spin-off book to DEAR DOCTOR (2009), nominated for the Naoki Literature Prize.

Description
A young medical intern student named Keisuke Soma is assigned to work in a remote countryside village. Keisuke at first takes the attitude that this assignment is below his creditentials. His thoughts soon change. Keisuke Soma then meets the small town's resident doctor named Dr. Ino, who is universally beloved by the town. The town doctor works diligently around the clock, while knowing virtually everything about the residents' illnesses and their family history. Keisuke follows Dr. Soma around and starts to learn things he never learned in medical school. A secret then emerges about Dr. Ino and the town must come to grips with this new knowledge of the man they so admired.

Description
Takeru is a successful photographer living the good life in Tokyo. He reluctantly sets off to visit his hometown on the first anniversary of his mother’s death. Stopping in to see his older brother, Minoru who has taken over the family gas station, he runs into a childhood friend, Chieko, now one of Minoru’s employees. The three decide to take a drive to the ravine ? a local beauty spot. Walking ahead on his own, Takeru crosses a bridge suspended high above the gorge to search for potential photos. Minoru and Chieko follow moments later but, as they cross, Chieko tumbles off the unsteady bridge into the ravine below. Following Chieko’s funeral, Minoru is arrested. With only one witness, Minoru’s defence hangs on his brother’s testimony. As the trial progresses, it uncovers the gulf of jealousy and resentment that exists between the brothers and Takeru becomes unsure of what he actually saw that day.
